After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the international community has introduced unprecedented sanctions against Moscow. The measures are aimed at isolating Russia on the world stage and undermining its economy.

European countries are preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia. They intend to coordinate this package with the United States if Moscow continues to refuse to accept the ceasefire in Ukraine. This was stated on Thursday, May 1, by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Le Figaro reports.

“We, Europeans, support this US initiative, preparing the 17th package of sanctions. Yesterday (Wednesday), I assured Lindsey Graham that we will try to coordinate these two packages of sanctions both in terms of content and timing,” the minister said.

The official did not disclose details of the new EU package of sanctions against Russia, as well as the possible dates of its adoption.

Barro added that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is “the only obstacle to peace in Ukraine,” while the minister stressed that Kyiv “has fulfilled its part of the agreements.”
It should be noted that the “devastating” sanctions were announced in the US Senate on May 1. They said they were working on a bill on new sanctions against the Kremlin, as well as against states that continue to buy oil, gas and other basic goods and resources from Russia. These countries could be subject to tariffs of 500%.
